How many decks are used in blackjack (and why it matters)
Casinos use anywhere from 1 to 8 decks. Fewer decks slightly favor the player - single-deck basic strategy has the lowest house edge - and the deck count changes a few strategy plays plus how meaningful card counting can be.
Single deck vs shoe games
Single and double deck games are usually dealt face-down by hand and often pay only 6:5 on naturals these days, which more than wipes out the deck-count edge - check the payout first. Six and eight deck shoes are the standard casino game: dealt face-up from a shoe, usually 3:2, with the smallest rule surprises.
Continuous shufflers
A continuous shuffling machine feeds discards straight back into the shoe, so there is no penetration and no count to keep - they exist specifically to kill card counting. The basic-strategy plays stay the same; the opportunity to raise bets in good counts disappears.
What our free game uses
Our trainer deals a classic multi-deck shoe with 3:2 payouts and fresh shuffles each shoe, so the basic strategy chart applies as printed. Play free - virtual chips only.
